Hydrodynamic loads on a restrained ROV under waves and current

Remotely Operated (underwater) Vehicles (ROV) have a wide range of maritime applications, including repair and maintenance. Quantifying hydrodynamic loads is important for the design control these ROVs. A novel approach with eight tethers was used to restrain commercially available ROV, namely BlueROV2 (Blue Robotics, Torrance, USA), in mid depth FloWave wave current test tank. This experimental set-up allowed measurement forces under realistic flow around ROV without introducing significant interference. The paper presents analysis load cell data as moments relation observed motion rotation ROV. In addition active propelled cases, variation speed (up 1 m/s) coming out four directions well different regular waves were tested.
